I've been a fan of Mr. Morris' work since the first book, and the series keeps getting better with each installment. I must say that I found "Lifeblood" to be the most frightening and most intriguing of the three so far. It's hard to scare me, and some things in this book did make me pause in my reading.
More than being creepy, this is a narrative that easily blends fantasy and reality together. Jonah, as I have mentioned before, is a great lead character. He is almost benign in his normalcy, and that is what makes this series so likable. He is your coworker, your neighbor, even you. He is unusual in a protagonist, but he is also wonderful in his own way.
You don't HAVE to read the first two books before reading this series, but it might be best if you did. There are some hints at the previous books and certain situations that might be confusing for new readers.
I liked delving into that character's past, learning more and more than many authors would tell a reader.
This story is an exercise in understanding and humanity, despite it's non-human secondary characters. It makes you wonder if, somehow, this could be real. That is my favorite part of it, the writing that makes your imagination run wild.
