BLOG TOUR: Interview with RAP Author Melissa MacVicar
[This is part TWO of the blog tour, to see part ONE and read an excerpt from Ever Lost as well as my review, please click HERE . Thank you!]
1. When/why did you decide to become a writer?
I wouldn’t necessarily say I decided to become a writer in the same way some people decide on a career. Being a writer isn’t really a job for me, it’s more just who I am. With that said, I started writing fiction again when I was 39 years old after giving up on it for about twenty years.
2. What authors inspired you when you were younger? What books do you enjoy reading today?
Some of my favorite authors when I was younger were Judy Blume, John Irving, and Anita Shreve. The only requirement I have for a book is that it have some romance and suspense.
3. What was the inspiration behind the Secret Affinity series?
There were a whole bunch of conflicting genres I wanted to write that I managed to include in my first book, EVER NEAR—ghosts, historical, contemporary, romance, and young adult. I kept working the ideas over in my brain until they all meshed together in one story.
4. Why choose ghosts as your main paranormal focus?
It is my belief that ghosts are the most rooted in reality of all paranormal beings. I can suspend my disbelief the best when it comes to ghosts.
5. Do you, personally, believe in ghosts?
Yes, a part of me does although I’ve never seen one. Part of me wants to see one while the rest of me finds them terrifying.
6. How many more books will the series spawn?
The series is three books in my mind so one more. But you never know…
7. What other genres would you like to try your hand at?
The other genres I’m most interested in are Romance, Women’s Fiction, and Contemporary Young Adult.
8. What is your personal favorite ghost story (film or book)?
I loved the move Ghost with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze. Some readers have told me they see the influence of that movie on my ghosts in the Secret Affinity books.
9. What would you do if you had powers like Jade's?
Eek! Probably cry. Then, like her, I would try to figure out how to deal with it and why it’s happening to me.
10. Would you like to see the Secret Affinity Series in theaters or on TV? If so, what actors would you like to see play your characters?
I would love to see my books on screen! There are so many great, young actors who could play Jade and Charlie but I imagine a young actor named Brant Daugherty as Charlie and an actress named Katerina Graham as Jade. I have pictures of them on my Pinterest if you’d like to check them out.

11. Where do you see yourself and your career in the next ten years?
That is a hard question. Ten years is a long time, and I tend to make shorter term goals so they will be more manageable in my day to day life. My ultimate dream is to score a big publishing contract and reach the top ten on the New York Times Bestseller list. A girl’s gotta dream, right?
12. What would you be doing if you weren't writing?
Well, I don’t write full-time. I teach full-time and write part-time. If I wasn’t writing, I think I would be sad and depressed. There is a nothing that could replace writing for me. When I try to stop, it doesn’t work.
13. Can you tell KSR what you're working on next?
I am currently working on a contemporary young adult novel. It’s almost done but the premise is top secret.
14. What authors, dead or alive, would you like to collaborate with?
Let’s see, probably the same authors I mentioned above—Blume, Irving, and Shreve. I would also love to meet Shakespeare. Collaborating with him would probably be too intimidating but meeting him would be amazing.
15. Thank you for participating in the interview. Can you please leave the readers with three things that may surprise them about you?
Three surprising things about me:
1. My husband and I were in the same kindergarten class.
2. My guilty pleasure is singing along to pop music at the top of lungs in the car.
3. I don’t finish a lot of books that I start.
