BOOK REVIEW: "The Breadwinner Trilogy Books 1-3" by Stevie Kopas

The Breadwinner (Book 1):

The end of the world is not glamorous.
In a matter of days the human race was reduced to nothing more than vicious, flesh hungry creatures.
Criminal defense attorney, Samson, struggles to keep his family safe and his sanity intact when the world comes apart at the seams. Veronica, the high school track star, races to get her brother out of their doomed city.  Ben, a military veteran, is forced to come to grips with the end of the world as he fights the undead.  Andrew, a police officer, struggles to maintain some sort of humanity in a world overrun by death and destruction.
There are no heroes here, just survivors, and they all have one thing in common:  who you once were can no longer determine who you will be in the face of catastrophe.
The Breadwinner, book 1 in The Breadwinner Trilogy, thrusts you head first into post-apocalyptic Northwest Florida and will leave you craving more.

Haven (Book 2):

The end of the world still isn’t glamorous.
The survivors of The Breadwinner have barely escaped the clutches of the undead and are headed into the unknown, continuing their never ending search for solace in the post-apocalyptic landscape they were suddenly thrust into. The city of Haven, once a paradise for the living, but now crawling with the flesh hungry creatures they try so hard to elude, could be their only chance.
Resume your post-apocalyptic survival adventure with Veronica, Samson, and the others as they take a chance on the promises of a lone survivor.  Is the light-hearted newcomer, Gary, all that he seems or are there sinister motives hidden behind his hospitality?
Go back to the start of the outbreak with Michelle and Lulu, two ordinary women faced with extraordinary horrors and obstacles.  Can they make it to safety or will they just become another undead face in the hordes roaming the streets of Haven?
Worlds collide when tragedy strikes and our survivors must band together against their common enemy.  But remember, who you were does not determine what you will become in the face of catastrophe… the dead may no longer be their greatest threat.
Haven continues the story of The Breadwinner with the addition of new territory, new characters, and new dangers around every corner. The second book in The Breadwinner Trilogy will leave you stunned and bloodthirsty for the conclusion of the series.
Welcome home, Haven is hell.

All Good Things (Book 3):

Locked up safely behind the walls of their glamorous beach resort, our survivors of Haven have grown comfortable, almost forgetting that the undead are still on the prowl in the streets below.   But when the unthinkable happens and the group loses one of their own under mysterious circumstances, they begin to question whether or not staying at the resort is their best option.
Friends turn on one another and once again, the group finds themselves back on the apocalyptic streets of Haven, battling the dead.
The biggest threat yet emerges, and a traitor is revealed, proving once and for all that the flesh hungry creatures infesting the city are not the group’s greatest foe.
Will our survivors be able to make it out alive one last time?
The final book in The Breadwinner Trilogy is a non-stop, post-apocalyptic race to the finish line.  Murder, lies, captivity, and a seemingly never ending onslaught of the dead are just some of the challenges our group will face.
Fates hang in the balance but one thing is certain:  the end of the world is not glamorous, and All Good Things must come to an end.

I was gifted this trilogy by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Instead of reviewing each book separately, I will write this as a series overview, because I had the pleasure of reading all three books at the same time. And believe me, it was a pleasure!
The zombie apocalypse is such an overused theme, sometimes when I see Walking Dead commercials I want to pull an Elvis and shoot my TV. (Don't tell anyone I said that!) It's true. There are very few examples of good zombie writing, but the first people that come to mind are Darren Shan, Harry Shannon, Steven W. Booth and Stephen Kozeniewski. I can now add Stevie Kopas to that list of people who wrote a very classic but also very entertaining series.
From page one of book one all the way through the very last punctuation mark of book three you're in for a wild, action-packed and very personal ride.
The first thing I want to mention is the individuality present in each character. They are the most disparate cast I've seen in a while, a high school kid, a veteran and a lawyer. In what universe could that possibly work? In this one. Samson, the lawyer, is actually my favorite, but I think all three are excellently written.
The zombies aren't the only adversaries in the book, either, for which I was glad. No, as in life, your greatest enemy is the one who's shaking your hand while holding the knife behind their backs with their other hand.
These books were a video game mixed with a horror movie, and in my book there's nothing better! In my personal opinion, THIS should be on TV or in theatres. If you like good drama, great action and a little dash of gore, these are definitely for you!

5/5 for the whole series!
