BOOK REVIEW: "The Necklace Of The Goddess Athena" by Effrosyni Moschoudi
IN ATHENS, THE GODS STILL DWELL AMONG THE MORTALS. Phevos and his sister Daphne are time travelers from ancient Greece. Unaware of the reason their father has sent them to modern-day Athens, they settle down in this new world with the assistance of two orphaned siblings. Soon, the four youngsters stumble upon vital information that can help them find their missing parents. When they discover a secret cave in the Acropolis foothills, a precious finding causes them to become involved in a conflict between two Gods, one of which becomes their protector and the other, their worst nemesis. Who will prevail when the rival Gods meet again and will the mortal bystanders survive to tell the tale?
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
When I hear about time travel, I immediately think of science fiction, not urban fantasy. More Doctor Who than The Vampire Diaries, so to speak. But Ms. Moschoudi managed to weave in mythology and modern themes effortlessly, when she sends Greek gods to the 21st century Greece, making us see our world through their eyes.
The gods (who are children) get sent here for reasons unknown and befriend two orphans who help them adapt to the modern world. They are characters you immediately get to like. Depending on your age, you will either want to befriend them or protect them with all your might.
This is also a battle between good and evil, how certain events could alter every timeline, the past and the present. It was written lyrically, with deep meanings and a lot of heart. I felt transported to Greece as I read, and I know that this is a story I will never forget!
5/5--not your typical urban fantasy!
