COMIC BOOK REVIEW: "Old Wounds #3"

OLD WOUNDS, Russell Lissau and John Bivens’ four-issue comic book murder-mystery, has grabbed the attention of critics and readers alike with its tale of a man whose past literally comes back to haunt him. We’ve been right there with retired vigilante Michael Lane as he’s suffered the loss of his ex-wife and old friends.
In the third issue of this gripping mini-series, the investigation into those explosive attacks leads to Lane’s old enemy, Tommy Blast. But could this deranged mob enforcer have orchestrated the murders from inside his prison cell? Or has the evidence trail gone cold? Readers will find out in this shocking penultimate chapter that is not to be missed.

OLD WOUNDS #3 will be available on June 24 in comic book stores or directly from popgoestheicon.com for $2.99, and via mobile apps such as ComiXology, ComicsPlus or DriveThruComics for 99 cents. To find a comic store near you, visit comicshoplocator.com.

MY REVIEW:

Crime is a big love of mine. Not committing it, of course, but watching TV shows and reading about it. In superhero comics, we don't often see the investigation side of it (except for Batman, of course), but in the third issue of Old Wounds, we get to go behind the mask with Michael and Detective Alyssa Hess, as they go through crime scenes and interview suspects.
I really like Detective Hess. She's smart and blunt, taking no sh*t from Michael, her boss or a crime boss.
Michael is becoming less of an enigma, as we see his nightmares, his past and his loss very plainly in this issue. He becomes more of a relatable character as you turn each page, even when it's suggested that maybe he is the killer.
We are left with the biggest cliffhanger of all at the end, which made me throw my tablet down in frustration. I want issue four and I want it yesterday! It's wonderful to read. You get lost in this series and I think that the team of Lissau and Bivens is one that will go down in comic book history.

5/5--I wish there was more than one issue left!
