BOOK REVIEW: "Behind The Chimera" by Tiffany Reyes

When Ian Crowell's best friends are torn apart right before his eyes and he narrowly escapes the killer, he can't imagine life could get much worse. That is, until the doctor tending to him starts acting strange and Ian knows the safest thing to do is get away. But while on the run, he discovers his pursuer may be a little less than human. Cornered in a library, Ian stumbles on a dusky passage in the wall behind a statue.
He thinks it's an air shaft--a way out! In fact, it's the way in…
This story is about a young man who gets sucked into another world, as ancient as it is technologically advanced. His goal is simple: find the one who can show him the way home. But Ian is unaware that a dark entity was awaiting his arrival and is intent on destroying him. It isn't his fate. It isn't his destiny. He was a regular person in the wrong place at the worst time.
Here is his struggle for survival on a grim planet charged with bizarre phenomena.

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Whenever I get a true horror novel in my inbox from an author, I admit I do a little happy dance. I love horror, and finding it now can be difficult, unless it's interspersed with romance. I like romance, I do, but what I love more is that scared tingle that goes down your spine when you read something particularly horrific.
I got that tingle just reading the beginning of Ms. Reyes' book!
I love the new paranormal elements she introduced in this book. It was atypical, and it really made me visualize what I was reading more than anything else. I want so desperately to see this world she created!
Ian is a great lead, going by ear and just trying to survive. He reminds me of characters in books from forty years ago, those who are unbearably human and relatable. The others she created, ones who joined him on his journey, were also either creepy or delightful. Very well-rounded, and very easy to picture in my mind's eye.
I did get the creeps a couple of times while reading this, which is why I am giving it a five. Nothing scares me anymore, but this book managed to. Bravo, Ms. Reyes. I can't wait for your next book!

5/5--wonderfully creepy!
