BOOK REVIEW: "Defiant" by H.G. Lynch

Sometimes love burns.
The intelligent loner, Anson, soon learns this when he falls in love...but the girl he wants isn't what she seems.
Poppy is part of a secret organisation of vampires trained to fight werewolves.
She's been sent to recruit Anson, and if she fails, they'll both have to outrun the rulers of her society...or face death together.

I received an advance copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Today has been a bad day. Usually, I would refrain from posting on my blog in the event of a mass terror attack like what has happened in Paris, but I am writing this review for one reason: escape. Reality is the pits. My blog is here to provide you with a fictional distraction, and that is what I intend to do by telling you all about H.G. Lynch's latest book, Defiant.
We meet Anson, a typical older teen in a typical town. He has a typical family. The one thing not so average about him is his amazing talent with art (and his creative mind that oftentimes gets him in trouble at school). He is also a big time loner. Despite that, he is an extremely likable character.
Poppy is the new girl in school, who seems to shun the popular kids and make friends with Anson immediately. She's different, in more ways than one, and hiding one very big secret.
The story moves along at a fast pace, but despite its only being a little over 130 pages, it feels as if it went on longer. The pages are packed full of a really great, fleshed out story. I was immediately immersed in the tale, and I love the vampires vs lycans theme. It's always been one of my favorites.
I read this book in one sitting. Teens (the target audience) will probably take longer, but I could not stop reading it. It was fun, mysterious, dark, and a great thrill ride with an undertone of teen romance.
The book could have used a bit more mystique in the narrative, but other than that I couldn't find much fault in it. As always, Ms. Lynch and Vamptasy Publishing released another truly gripping tale. Adults, take note: this book will be just as much fun for you as it will be for teenage readers!

5/5--Great paranormal for teens and adults!
