RELEASE DAY + BOOK REVIEW: "The Devil's Kiss" by Rue Volley
Jack Landon’s bittersweet caress still lingers on Abigail’s lips.
He haunts her dreams and blinds her to reality.
She now finds herself at a crossroads.
One road could lead to safety.
The other to uncertainty and heartbreak.
Life could be easy, as easy as breathing.
But we all know that love should leave you breathless.
I received an advance copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Oh, Rue. After ten long months you took my heart, tore it from my chest, dipped it in a bit of acid and put it back in again. And that was before I even picked up this book!
I could not stop reading once I started this book. In fact, I had no idea how long I'd been reading till my e-reader beeped and told me I had less than five percent battery left!
When you start this book (not recommended if you haven't read the first two books of the trilogy yet), get your tissues. I'm not joking. I cried. And cried. And later on in the book I cried some more.
I said this with the first book, when I hear "erotica" and "BDSM" in a description I think it's going to be a bit of smut with a little bit of danger added in. This hardly has any sex in it at all (what is there is made even hotter because of the intensity of the characters).
This book is a movie. It needs to be seen on a big screen, and immediately. This was a thrill ride that went in directions I never in a million years would have guessed it would go in. Rarely am I surprised when I read a book, but this book continuously surprised me. It surprised me in both good and bad ways.
There are elements of suicide, mental illness, and hospitalization, so if you have a trigger, here is your warning. I have never related more to a character as I have to Abi, especially in this book.
There is so much that goes on here, I can't possibly put it all into one review. Life, death, murder, suspense, grief, and most of all, love. Love beats out everything. I read the last chapter with bated breath, hoping for the ending that I got (no spoilers here!) once I closed the book.
These characters are real. They don't feel fictional to me. As a reader, I felt like Abi was my friend, and that her woes were my woes. She is so strong, so unique. I love her, and I love Jack, too. We get a good look inside his head, and I thought that that was long overdue.
Okay, I am going to shut up now so you can go and read this awesome series for yourself. (Really, if I don't stop I may gush all night!)
Thank you, Rue Volley, for giving us readers such an amazing, beautiful story.
5/5--I can't say enough good things about this book!
