About me: Jennifer Raygoza also known as the rebel of writing, burst through the writing scene in 2012 with a vampire series called, The Guardians. It was a story originally written just for fun, but ended up being self-published out of curiosity. Little did she know, the series would be strongly embraced by vampire readers. Since then this down to earth, California girl has been picked up by Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing.   WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT WHEN YOU READ HER BOOKS? She break hearts, kills bad guys and gives you characters that make you fall in love. This writer will have you turning pages and thirsting for more.

EXCERPT:
#1I’m standing here naked and staring at him as he dips his hand into his wallet. It was the same hand that was planted on my ass cheek not even an hour earlier. It was the same hand that was gently wrapped around my throat thirty minutes ago, and it will be the same hand of the man who returns home to his wife in the next fifteen minutes. I slide into my panties as he quickly zips and buttons up his pants, and then I watch as he tosses crisp hundred dollar bills on the bed next to me. I look down at the cash and then back up to him. He’s grinning, a usual side effect from our dirty little night. It’s an I just had my brains fucked silly type of expression. I don’t want to smile back, but it’s a habit. This sexual game we play is already set into motion the very moment any man meets me. He licks his lips while he eyes me up and down. I’m waiting, standing there perfectly still, with my tits out and fuck-me eyes glued to him. He leans in and grips my waist with both hands. I remain silent. My job is done. The cash is on the bed and I’m ready to leave, but I can’t. Not yet. I have to stay in character for a little longer. He’s thirsty for me, and if I give him just a drop, he’ll keep coming back for more. I’m setting mental traps in that head of his and he doesn’t even know it. These men never do. Fucking Idiots.

#2. “Nine, It’s me. Look at me,” Trig yells. “It’s just me,” he repeats.
I collapse in his arms. I’m sobbing, as we both fall to the floor. He scoots me up into his lap and cradles me. We stay like that for a few minutes until I calm down. He suddenly moves and picks me up, carrying me back to the bed. He gently places me down and covers me up. He’s about to walk away, when I grab his hand.
“Lay with me.”
He looks at me with uncertainty.
“Please,” I beg.
He climbs over the bed and lays down next to me. I need to touch him again. There is something soothing about it. I don’t even care what he is or what he does at the moment. He makes my demons disappear and I need that right now. I turn on my back and inch my hand closer and closer to his. Our fingers are now slightly touching. I move my hand entirely inside of his. He wraps his hand around mine, and that’s where I find my peace. I close my eyes and fall back asleep.

MY REVIEW:

This isn't something that usually comes up on my blog, but I love mercenaries. And make no mistake, Trig is a mercenary. Yes, I do know that that might be odd, but in this instance it enhanced the reading experience.
This is a very dark story; I have read similar, but none have been so deep and also so romantic, even when the romance is strained.
Nine is a typical call girl/escort. She had the typical hurtful, abusive background. What isn't typical is that she is not a pitiable character. She is strong, doing what she has to to survive. Nothing about her says "I'm broken", even though she is. She is a survivor, and she is a really great character. She could have been very two-dimensional, but she definitely was not!
Trig also had a difficult past, but his does vary from the norm a bit. He is definitely swoon-worthy, but he is so much more than that. He was a character I easily liked, despite his profession (or because of), and someone I would love to see more of in another book.
The story was very fast-paced. In fact, that was another thing that surprised me about it. Romances can go on forever, but this one went by almost too fast. The story had a couple of slow dips, but nothing too hindering of the reading process.
I liked this book, I liked the characters, and I really loved the deep emotions Ms. Raygoza invoked within me while I read this book. It isn't for everyone, but for those who can handle the dark and sexual subjects, I highly recommend it.
