BOOK REVIEW: "Maladaption" by Adam Ramie

A drug deal gone wrong. The murder of an old friend. A stolen ride turned kidnapping. Three women follow the same path on a map plotted by murder. Who will survive?
Lee Barsten is a burnout on the run from a vicious drug dealer who will stop at nothing to make sure she pays for a debt he wants to collect in blood. Ruby Isles is a victim of spousal abuse trying desperately to get out and make a new life for herself. And Harry Thresher is a detective who doesn't play by the rules, but gets the job done - at a high price that is steadily catching up to her. Their lives collide as drugs, murder, and lust drive them to unexpected extremes.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

A short, dark story that dragged me in like it was a drug in itself, I really loved Maladaption. The three main characters are each so individual, so brutally real, that they imprint themselves on the reader's brain and heart.
I love that the relationship and sexual orientation are not made a big deal of. They just are, as it should be in fiction and in real life. I really liked reading a story geared towards adults with LGBT+ characters that is not just about sex or the romance between the characters.
Harry is actually my favorite, because she is so flawed, but trying to be good by being a detective. In a world where lines are blurred, and black and white make grey, she is a perfect character.
I could read this over and over. With the exception of a slight lack of character development, this was an excellent read.

4.5/5--a great story!

Purchase Maladaption.
