BOOK REVIEW: "Lure Of Obsession" by Lisa Kessler
The Prophecy - "Every generation the nine daughters of Zeus are reborn, and with their rebirth are also nine Guardians. They will be marked by the gods, and given gifts to protect his treasure. Their abilities will only be unlocked when they find their muse."
Melanie Jacoby teaches English at Crystal City High School. She's also the reborn Muse of Tragic Poetry, but she isn't prepared for the tragedy of finding her roommate dead at the bottom of the stairs.
Nate Malone is the detective assigned to the case, but as the evidence points to an accidental fall, the visions begin. He sees a killer in a gold Kronos mask.
Mel is the next target.
The Order of the Titans are eager to bring about the return of the Golden Age of Man, and they're prepared to kill the Muses to complete their mission. But Nate's desire to protect Mel is almost as strong as his hunger for her.
And tragedy isn't part of his plan
I received an advance copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Starting a new series is always exciting, especially if that series is from one of your favorite authors. Mrs. Kessler has been a favorite of mine for years now, ever since Night Walker was released, and I was excited to dive into this book.
Being the first in a series, I will say that, in order to keep the mystery, there is a lot of detail lacking in the first half of this book. the details that are there are mystifying, keeping me reading all through the night last night.
Nate is a sympathetic character I feel for immediately. He is a tortured soul, a kind soul, and a hurting soul. I loved him from his first introduction, and he is perfect for the Muse of Tragic Poetry.
Mel and her sisters are all completely different personas, and I am so excited to read each book and discover more about them all, especially the Muses of Music and Lyrics, because that means we might get some sexy rock stars (Lisa, anything you can confirm or deny here?).
Mel is a lot like me, personality wise, and I liked her as well. The romance between her and Nate is a very predictable thing, but that's not what I read this book for. I read it for the Order of the Titans, the mystery, the history, and the deep plot that has my mind whirling about the next book and what it will hold.
I also must mention the birthmark that makes a Guardian know he's met his Muse. I've read a lot of fan fiction about things like this, and I LOVED it in an actual original novel.
Another kick-a** book from Kessler!
4/5--another masterpiece!
