Isaiah Barker is a deputy in a small town in Southern California. For the past few months, the town has been plagued by a serial killer. Another serial killer. The Ripper, as the locals call him. Isaiah is far less sloppy than this new killer in town. The new killer makes a habit of killing young women and harvesting their organs before leaving the bodies on display for the townspeople to find.
The case was going slow until Rocelyn Blum moved to town. Isaiah takes a liking to her instant-ly, and it forces him into a situation where his only option is to set up his latest kill to make it look like The Ripper did it. The killer doesn’t take too kindly to being blamed for someone else’s work, so he decides to take it out on Rocelyn. Isaiah has to find The Ripper before his game ends and he takes away the only person in Isaiah’s life that can make him feel human.

The book is as wild a ride as the blurb is! I am a horror nut, as you all well know by now, and this book fed my desire for bloodshed AND mystery at once. I think the best horror books have characters who aren't exactly likable, and I didn't really like Isaiah OR Rocelyn. (Especially Rocelyn.) But yet I was drawn deep into this story and into their lives as The Ripper tried to, ahem, tear them apart.
I'm known amongst my friends as the one who always guesses the endings of books, but this one really kept me on the edge of my seat and it took me finishing the book to say, "Why didn't I SEE this?" That, to me, makes it a great book!
It's not for everyone, especially those who can't handle bloodshed, but horror fans will clamor for this book. It's the first full-length story I read from Nicole Thorn, and I was very glad that I had another book of hers to get to once I was done with this one!

Psychological horror, teen style. I know, that line didn't sit well as I thought about it, either. When it comes to horrors of the mind for teens, it can get murky and possibly too dark, or miss the mark entirely. But this one walked that fine line right to the end. It's a fast-paced read, with compelling characters, and a twisted plot. I can't say enough good stuff about it.
The book begins dark, gets darker, and adds in adventure and mystery and crazy plot twists, which means I can't write too much about it, because this is a spoiler-free zone.
You can really see how Thorn's talents have improved, and you can be sure that I will be reading more by her in the future!
