BOOK REVIEW: "Jax Starlight: Earth Ten Vol. 1" by Jenn Nixon

Jax Starlight Volume One: The Earth Ten (The Jax Starlight Series Book 1) by [Nixon, Jenn]

When the Exodus ships left Earth, we all thought we had a chance at starting over, finding a new world to build a colony. Only that didn't happen. We crashed on an inhabited planet and woke up to a nightmare we can't escape. There's something different about this world. It's changing me. I'm stronger, faster, and...

I know what some would say, but they've got it all wrong. No one in their right mind would want this power and the responsibility that comes with it. Definitely not me. I'm not a superhero. I'm just Jax, freak extraordinaire, and this is my story.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

As a lifelong fan of superheroes, I was stoked to see this book. There are, in my opinion, too few books focusing on superheroes. And for Nixon's first offering in this genre, it's more than promising.
After an apocalyptic event, people flee Earth to travel to a new world which bestows powers on young Jax, a teenage girl who considers herself a freak. That's one of the things I loved, that Jax wasn't a "normal" girl, but rather more of an outcast. I think she'll be a great role model for teen girls reading the book on that alone.
The story was fast paced and intriguing, making you want to turn the page and find out what happens next. I can't wait for volume two!
