RELEASE BLITZ + BOOK REVIEW: "Race & Roll" by Piper Kay

•.¸(*•.¸(*•.¸´NEW RELEASE✰¸.•*´)¸.•*´)¸.•
✰✰✰BY PIPER KAY✰✰✰

Jett loves to play hard and race harder, but has issues. The love of his life, Logan, disappeared five years ago, but suddenly reappears. Will they crash and burn? Is it even real? Or is he just in for wishful thinking?

INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR:

1. When/why did you decide to become a writer? *

I always said I would, and got laughed at for chasing a dream I could never be by some very close family members, so I did it to prove a point. Plus the characters in my head wouldn't behave themselves or let me sleep.

2. What authors inspired you when you were younger? What books do you enjoy reading today? *

Too many to name. I guess I started writing after reading Ann Rice's stuff, she is wonderful. I love reading MM, PRN type stuff

3. What was the inspiration behind your latest release? *

A dream. I grew up with mostly male cousins, I was the only girl for 20 years and learned about racing and how to work on cars. The characters just let the way in this one, like most of my stories, so I ran with it.

4. Were any of the characters personalities or emotions taken from real life? *

Of course, we all put a little bit of ourselves into a book. Or take something from someone we know. My whole life can be told if you can figure out which parts through each story. You'll learn my favorite color down to someone's death and all the history in between.

5. Why do you write in your chosen genre? What other genres would you like to try your hand at? *

I would love to write paranormal, but I don't have the gift. I chose to write in the MM genre because I was told early on that I write in a masculine voice and to give it a try. I did and love it.

6. What would you do if you were your main character? *

Get laid a lot. LOL Kidding! I would be a fighter, one that fights for what they believe and follows their heart just like I do now.

7. Will we ever see these characters again? *

Never say never

8. Would you like to see this book as a film or TV show? If yes, who do you want to see play your characters? *

That would be awesome. I'd have to do some research to pick actors though, but have several personal choices of people I actually know I could pick from.

9. Where do you see yourself and your career in the next ten years?

Writing and watching people. I love people watching.

10. Is there anything you haven't touched on that you'd like readers to know about your book? *

I just hope it shows that true love is out there, you just have to get through situations.

11. What would you be doing if you weren't writing? *

Going bat-shit crazy

12. Can you tell KSR what you're working on next? *

Next up, a story called Glorious Disaster, and talk bout a train wreck. I love it. Plus several others.

13. What authors, dead or alive, would you like to collaborate with? *

Author Poppet and Ann Lister

14. What are three things that may surprise your readers to know about you? *

1) I'm shy 2) I'm really a blonde 3) I'm a widow
[KSR would like to inform you that she is NOT shy. "You Keep Using That Word, I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means".]

15. Please list your links where readers can find you online and purchase your works. *

BOOK REVIEW:

Race & Roll is probably the shortest thing I've read this year that gave me so many feels. It's a quick, 20 minute read, but it gives you the entire story without seeming like you got cheated on the full background of the characters.
Jett and Logan are at once likable and relatable. The love between them is tangible, and you feel a knot in your gut when Jett is lamenting on his former lover.
Short, sweet, and to the point, anyone who loves second chance romances but doesn't have the time for a full novel should pick this up right away!

RELEASE BLITZ + BOOK REVIEW: "Battered & Bruised, But Not Broken" by TL Travis and Piper Kay

My rock, my savior, my prince. You found me when I was lost
What inspired Piper & TL to write Battered & Bruised, but not broken
I think our budding friendship and differences in our lives which is the same thing that drew us together. Piper's character is tormented and has been to hell and back. TL's character is someone who's suffered, but still managed to move past his anguish, or so he thought. Title: Battered & Bruised, but not broken Release Date: August 18th, 2017 Publisher: Encompass Ink Genres: Erotic male/male romance Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35522783-battered-bruised-but-not-broken https://youtu.be/iBDyEAxQ-_0 Battered & Bruised, but not broken, is an erotic, male/male, gay romance novel. It's the culmination of two lost souls finding what they didn't know they were looking for. Hunter's an ex-con, always in the wrong place at the wrong times, which is how he landed up in prison. He's looking to start anew, when in walks Elliott. Timid , sheltered, Elliott, has his life in order. Or so he thinks. That is until, Hunter, introduces him to a whole new world. Both are battling demons from the past, but what happens when their two worlds collide? Where in the hell did I get that prissy, little take charge, bitch attitude from? That’s so not like me, I’m actually quite the opposite. Yet every time I’m around Hunter I turn into a fucking queen. But the way he freaked when I told him I was a virgin sent me into fight or flight mode and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let him or his ‘my shit don’t stink’ attitude get the best of me. Tell me I can come and go as I please, it’s like ‘no fucking shit I can’, but right now, all I want to do is lose my virginity to this cocky man. Why him? I honestly don’t know, but twenty-three years of waiting can make a guy do crazy shit. I know he wants me, it’s written all over his smug face. I see him grin when he thinks I’m looking the other direction. There’s a reason our paths keep crossing, call it karma, call it kismet, hell, call it whatever the fuck you want, but I know damn good and well there’s a reason for it. But last night, I saw a glimpse of his gentle side— the side that calls me to him when I shivered while he was undressing me. As I lay here watching him sleep, I see so much more in him than he does. I see the gentler, need to be loved side that he desperately tries to hide behind his tattooed bad boy façade. But what makes him tick? Baggage he claims, fuck dude, we all have baggage. Try getting past a homophobic father who damn near beats you to death when he finds out you’re gay. Talk about baggage, I never let anyone in after that. Fuck, it’d been years before I even tried to so much as kiss anyone after that. Hook-ups were my chosen vice in college, but I never let anyone in. And lo and behold what happens the first time I do? I get my dick sucked by the most amazing man I’ve ever met. The same man laying here beside me sleeping. The same man who’s quickly winning my heart. I was so nervous last night when he undressed me, so afraid he’d reject me in my vulnerable state of nakedness. My body still bears the physical scars from my father’s abuse which I thought would turn him off. But he looked right past them as though they didn’t exist. And when he called me baby, I lost it. A term of endearment from a self-proclaimed bad boy. That alone shows the depths of his humanity. I know the real Hunter’s in there, now all I need to do is prove to him that I won’t hurt him because clearly, something in his past has seriously fucked him up.

I have read both Piper and TL's work before, and I'm a fan of both authors. Finding out they were writing a book together got two reactions out of me: excitement and a sense of "what the f*** are we getting into here?"
What we got into is a whirlwind novel about two disparate yet equally damaged young men who both experienced the crushing blows of homophobia from their family, as well as a lot of abuse.
Hunter is an ex-con who has trust issues. Elliott is a nerdy man with a whole different set of issues. When they meet, without even knowing the others' name, it's lust at first sight.
Now, I know the insta-lust trope puts some readers off, but please believe me that their emotions at their first meeting are integral to the plot. Don't be put off by it; it means much more than a hook up to start the book hot.
And the book IS hot. So hot. It starts with a teaser of Hunter's past and goes right into a hot oral scene in the back room of a gay nightclub, and the ball gets rolling from there. Chapter one tells you right off the bat what to expect: angst, hot men, and sex. It sounds so simple, but the emotions captured and the issues touched on go much deeper.
These are complex characters in an age-old love story: star-crossed lovers, emotional issues, and pushing the other away. You'll be swooning, fanning yourself, and falling in love with them: not in a romantic way, but in that special way that a reader falls for a fictional character that means so much.
They leap off the page and into your heart as these women put so much hard work into creating them. You might call both Hunter and Elliott AND Piper and TL a match made in Heaven.

5/5--sexy, sweet, and lovely!

RELEASE DAY + BOOK REVIEW: "Girl Crush" by TL Travis

Girl Crush is an erotic female romance novella that brings to light that one time…
The one time you found yourself questioning your so-called sexuality, potentially risking your friendship. What if the feelings aren’t reciprocated?
Confusion and pain brings them closer together, feeding from one another’s strengths and thrusting them into each other’s arms.
Are the risks of their new-found love worth the result?
This novella caters to adults over 18 as it does contain a high level of consensual MF (1 scene) and FF sexual encounters.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Okay, there's a lot going on in this book and I am going to pace my thoughts to get everything straight. Well, maybe straight wasn't the right word to use! Girl Crush follows a woman named Liz and her late-in-life realization that she might not be straight, despite being married to her husband for a few years now.
I want to talk about Liz because I read a LOT of books, and she really was a character I could personally relate to. I came out as bi very early in life, but aside from that she and I are a lot alike. It was great seeing a romance story where the female lead didn't depend on a happy man and a bunch of kids for her life to be complete. Actually, that's the opposite of what Liz wants. This book shows that you can be happy and fulfilled without the "white picket fence and two-point-five kids".
Unlike most short erotic fiction, this packed a huge issue into its 61 pages: spousal abuse. Gem, the love interest, is in an abusive relationship with HER husband. The narrative, while being very quick, dealt with this very real and very harsh situation with eloquence and honesty. It was very well-written, and I applaud Travis for that.
The sex is, well, it's hot! But for me, the sex was just an added bonus to an already great story. Read this book: it should be a favorite for all women. Yes, I will mention I saw some typos but it was nothing that detracted from the story at all.

5/5--sweet, sexy, excellent.

RELEASE DAY: "Ashen Rayne (Shadowlands Book 1)" by Skye Knizley

Young women are vanishing from Miami’s club scene, most disappearing without a trace, others found suffocated in plastic bags, their battered corpses filled with a deadly cocktail of narcotics.
There are no suspects and few clues.
When exotic dancer Rayne is taken, her sister Blaze calls the ladies of Shadowlands to find her.
With only five days before Rayne is found dead or never found at all, Smoak and Ash dive into Miami’s underworld of drugs, prostitution and slavery, using every skill they have to find her before the clock runs out.
Alone?
Afraid?
Lost?
In trouble and have nowhere to turn?
Call Shadowlands. We’re here to help.

I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Kick ass women in fiction. Ever since I started reading, I always gravitated towards books where the heroine needs no man for help: Nicki Styx, the lead in Terri Garey's urban fantasy series. Raven Madison, in Ellen Schreiber's Vampire Kisses series. But those kinds of women are hard to find. Most of them fall short of what I'm always looking for...except for Smoak. Now there's a female lead!
She's too good to even be called bad ass. From page one you know there's something different about her and Ashley. Ashley is actually deaf, and you wouldn't know it except that they use TTY phones and in the first chapter it is mentioned. Skye didn't write her as disabled. Instead, she uses her disability to her advantage. Smoak is not disabled...she is actually too capable, if that's possible. It's her seeming invincibility that makes you love Ashley more: for showing her scars and her handicaps. But you learn that Smoak is not invincible, and that she does not have a heart of stone.
I don't like to review good books, because I am always afraid I'll run off at the mouth and post spoilers! I'll just try to stick to the basics.
The story should be in the dictionary for "fast paced". But it is not lacking in any department. There is no shortage of emotion, nor is there any detail missing. They define "women's fiction" as being targeted towards women by talking about women's experiences. If they put books like these down as "women's fiction", I bet we'd have had a female president by now. Reading this book was not just exhilarating for me, but as a young woman it makes me feel empowered to read a story about girls like these.
It's vigilante justice without a mask, leaving nothing and no one in her wake. This is not a book by a woman for women. This is a book by an amazing writer for anyone who wants to read real, action-packed fiction.

5/5--put this at the top of your TBR list immediately!
