NEW RELEASE + BOOK SALE: "The Shivers Novellas" by D. L. Richardson

Inspired by 'Tales from the Crypt' comics and R.L Stine's 'Goosebumps' series, the Shivers novellas are exactly that - stories to send shivers down your spine. Scare not splatter. Ghosts, not gore. More thrill, less kill. Suspense not slash. The Shivers Novellas are all standalone titles and can be read in any order.

Volume 3: Danger in the Dirt

The show must go on, even if it’s cursed.

Elijah Brooks has lost his home, his job, his girlfriend, and now he's about to lose his truck. Desperate to get his luck back on track, he thinks he's found the answer. His grandfather used to used to run a traveling 'wild west' show as The Gunslinger and he used to rake in the cash. Elijah's father still has all the tents and saddles and replica guns.

This is Elijah's last chance to make enough money to stop his landlord evicting him. He's found the location. He's hired the actors and horses. The posters are up. It's opening night and the whole town is set to show up.

But three show hands have disappeared and a strange beast made of dirt is responsible. Elijah is faced with a vengeful demon that will ruin him. Can Elijah stop the beast, or will it be a case of the show must go on, even if the show is cursed?

Reviews for Poison in the Pond :
"This is an excellent horror novella that had me reading nonstop."
"This was a great read. Thanks for the gift. I  read it in one day while at work ."
"Poison in the pond was a brilliant read, couldn't put it down once I started it and wondered where it was going???? Kept me hooked till the very end."
"I really loved this novella. I watch lots of horror films and no matter how good they are the ending always disappoints me. The ending of this book was brilliant. It was just as strong as the middle which was excellent. I was kept guessing right until the last page. Even now that I've finished the book I'm still thinking about it."

BOOK REVIEW: "The Last Bucelarii Book 2: Lament of the Fallen" by Andy Peloquin

The Hunter of Voramis is no more.
Alone with the bloodthirsty voices in his head, fleeing the pain of loss, he has one objective; travel North to find her, the mystery woman who plagues his dreams and haunts his memories.
When he stumbles upon a bandit attack, something within urges him to help. His actions set him at odds with the warrior priests commanded to hunt down the Bucelarii.
Left for dead, the Hunter must travel to Malandria to recover his stolen birthright. There, he is inexorably drawn into direct conflict with the Order of Midas, the faceless, nameless group of magicians that holds the city in a grip of terror. All while struggling to silence the ever-louder voice in his mind that drives him to kill.

From feared assassin to wretched outcast, the Hunter's journey leads him to truths about his forgotten past and the Abiarazi he has pledged to hunt. His discoveries will shed light on who he really is...what he really is.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Who here likes fantasy but also loves blood and violence? *raises hand* Well, if you raised your hand, too, look no further.  Featuring magic, mischief, and general mayhem, Lament of the Fallen (and it's predecessor Blade of the Destroyer) is the book for you. Following a bloodthirsty and possibly insane MC, the nameless Hunter, we see him brought low, a mere outcast.
Like most good fantasy, there is a majestic quest for something, riddled with potholes and a large cast of supporting characters and adversaries (mostly adversaries). The Hunter is not exactly a good guy, yet he's still the hero/antihero of the story, the one you root for as he meets dark magicians and fights against his own bloodthirsry desires.
I can't say much without giving too much away, but this series is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Perfect for horror fans and fantasy lovers alike!

5/5--excellent!

BOOK REVIEW: "The Hematophages" by Stephen Kozeniewski

Doctoral student Paige Ambroziak is a “station bunny” – she’s never set foot off the deep space outpost where she grew up. But when she’s offered a small fortune to join a clandestine salvage mission, she jumps at the chance to leave the cutthroat world of academia behind.
Paige is convinced she’s been enlisted to find the legendary Manifest Destiny, a long-lost colonization vessel from an era before the corporations ruled Earth and its colonies. Whatever she’s looking for, though, rests in the blood-like seas of a planet-sized organism called a fleshworld.
Dangers abound for Paige and her shipmates. Flying outside charted space means competing corporations can shoot them on sight rather than respect their salvage rights. The area is also crawling with pirates like the ghoulish skin-wrappers, known for murdering anyone they can’t extort.
But the greatest threat to Paige’s mission is the nauseating alien parasites which infest the fleshworld. These lamprey-like monstrosities are used to swimming freely in an ocean of blood, and will happily spill a new one from the veins of the outsiders who have tainted their home. In just a few short, bone-chilling hours Paige learns that there are no limits to the depravity and violence of the grotesque nightmares known as…THE HEMATOPHAGES.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

So, you must know by now how big a fan I am of Kozeniewski. He always has something new to offer with each book, and The Hematophages is no different. I was wary at first, because I don't read a lot of sci-fi. In fact, outside of Star Wars and Doctor Who, I don't like the genre very much at all. But this book has so many horror elements that I loved it despite it being sci-fi.
Paige is the main character and it's hard not to love her: she's snarky and craves adventure; like most of the author's characters, she has a unique voice and you get to know her well as the story goes on.
In this book there are two horrific creatures: the Hematophages themselves and the other humans who seem to have a devastating self-destructive streak within most of them. Even Paige, who like I said is a really great character.
I think hardcore sci-fi fans might be disappointed that the world-building could have used more plotting or description, but as a horror fan I was glad he didn't take pages upon pages to talk about space and what the worlds are like. It is described better in the actions of people. in how they act and think and well, she's in space. That's more than enough for me.
There's a great amount of humor, more than I would have expected, and it offsets the violence and darkness of the story. All in all, an excellent read from Kozeniewski that I recommend to all horror fans who are looking for something different to tantalize their minds with.

5/5--brilliant!

BOOK REVIEW: "Otherworld" by Stella Coulson

When Lenore’s world falls down, the fallout results in her travel to another dimension called the ‘Otherworld’. Within it, she encounters feral beasts, monsters and beautiful creatures with sadistic tastes. Once a victim - but never no more.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Note: you might want to read Whitby After Dark, the first book in this series, before you make the journey through Lenore's story in this book.
You get right into the story from page one, the moment you open your Kindle. It was easy and nearly seamless for me to slip right back into Lenore's world, despite it being nearly two years since I read the first book. Coulson created a world with characters who really stick with you once you've closed the book. The plot really evolved since Whitby was released, showing how the author has grown between books. All the characters are still very unique and three-dimensional, making you feel as though you are living their stories with them.
There's a lot of adventure and action, still with more allusions to abuse as there were in the first book, allegory that equates abuse with fictional monsters, making it more palatable. The mix of emotion and action and a dash of mystery make this a kick a** read, however there were some editing issues I feel I should point out. There were missing words, and sometimes I found that the capitalization of certain words to be distracting. It didn't take away too much from the book, but it was hard to stop reading to mentally edit and fix sentences as I read.
Overall, it's a great book with a deep, meaningful message beneath all that paranormal goodness. Definitely a book you should pick up ASAP.

4/5--exciting and intricate.

PRE-ORDER: "An Other Place" by Darren Dash

An Other Place by Darren Dash (the alter ego of Darren Shan Official), is available for pre-order! It will go live December 1st and is so, so worth the read! Definitely the best book of 2016 in my opinion.

Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com/Other-Place-Darren-Dash-ebook/dp/B01MXNBE8O/
Amazon UK:https://www.amazon.co.uk/Other-Place-Darren-Dash-ebook/dp/B01MXNBE8O/

There is An Other Place... where time and space are fluid... where the moon changes colour and savage beasts run wild... where love is a perilous proposition and the dead are swiftly forgotten... where sandmen offer sanctuary and the Alchemist rules over all.
When Newman Riplan’s flight into the unknown turns into a nightmarish slide between worlds, he must explore an unnamed city where unpredictable terrors are the norm. By the end of his first day adrift, his life has spun completely out of his control, but the most mind-twisting and soul-crushing revelations are only beginning. As he desperately searches for a way out, he starts to realise that the city isn’t in the habit of releasing its captives. And it seems to have a plan for him...

“This is, by far, the best book of 2016, possibly the best book of this decade... the bastard love child of Kafka and Rod Serling, throwing in a dash of Ray Bradbury for good measure. 5/5 -- brilliant. Just brilliant.” Kelly Smith Reviews.

“Darren Dash has opened a new artery of terror... unlike any book I have ever read... hints of The Twilight Zone, Pines, and Station Eleven.” The Literary Connoisseur.

“This book really did blow my mind... each page turn was both chilling and thrilling in equal measure... the conclusion left me with goosebumps. 5/5!” Rachel Hobbs, author.

"An Other Place is a deliciously quirky novel that is surreal and powerful in equal measure. This is by far Dash’s best work to date. It is challenging and absurd, artistically brave and politically conscious, but this abstract painting of a novel is one thing above all else… completely original." Books, Films & Random Lunacy.

“You can try and try but you will never guess the ending nor even 5 pages ahead as to where the story is going to take you.” Daniel Davies, Goodreads.

“This story had me hooked from the get go... an ending that sent my mind into a spin. 5 stars.” Reviews And Randomness.

“This book is utterly unique... I was amazed at how well Dash could create this baffling world from scratch and draw me into it so completely. 5 stars.” A Place In Which Jessie Writes.

"I have never read anything like An Other Place. It is truly a one of a kind... twisted and very disturbing in some parts. 5/5." Jessica Boehm, Amazon.
