1. When/why did you decide to become a writer?
I think the desire to be a writer started in my teens. I read a lot and would often get caught up in the characters, living their stories long after I’d finished the books. I had a great deal of respect for authors that could do that, and I wanted to be like them.
2. What authors inspired you when you were younger? What books do you enjoy reading today?
Daphne du Maurier, Mary Stewart, J.R.R. Tolkien and Ray Bradbury were among my favourite authors when I was young.
I go through various genre moods. I devoured Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia (didn’t everyone?) but also enjoy finding an author with a continuing series, like Patricia Cornwell, John Lescroart and Janet Evanovich. I particularly enjoy a good mystery/thriller with a romantic element.
At this very moment I’m reading fellow indie authors, from both the Rave Reviews Book Club (RRBC) and indieBRAG Medallion.
3. What was the inspiration behind the Absent Shadows Trilogy?
I was working around the corner from Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Markets, up near the Flagstaff Gardens. Walking around at lunchtime, I started sensing that I was smack dab in the middle of the perfect setting for ghosts and vampires—and the story just developed from there.
Of course, the late night ghost tours I’d done in the area, where I’d learned the history of the cemetery under the market’s carpark and about ghost sightings all throughout the area, really helped. And like many, I was caught up in the resurgence in popularity of vampires.
4. Will we ever see these characters again in the future?
Probably—the continuing story is bubbling away in my mind, and when it’s ready, it’ll surface.
5. You grew up in San Francisco but live in Australia. Has your location influenced your writing at all?
I think everyone’s writing is influenced by their surroundings and their perceptions of their environment.
Writing Lili in the first person was easy for me because in some ways she was living what I’d done. I think it would be pretty difficult for someone to write a story set in Australia if they didn’t live here.
6. Were any of the characters personalities or emotions taken from real life?
Aspects of the characters were inspired by people I’ve known, but none are meant to be anyone in particular.
7. What other genres would you like to try your hand at?
I’d like to have a go at a rural romance and also science fiction (the thought provoking eerie sort).
8. If you could trade places with one of your characters, who would it be and why?
Crystal. I loved writing her. She is caring, and beautiful, and gentle and all things feminine. But at the same time, she is strong and powerful, and not to be messed with. She is Aphrodite and Athena wrapped up in one awesome little package.
9. What is it about vampires that made you decide to use them as your "main creature"?
Mostly, I think it’s a bit of that beauty and the beast thing—seeing through the horrible exterior to the goodness that dwells deep inside. You have this hero who is handsome and charming, but also deadly, dark and powerful. And the heroine sees all sides of him and falls in love with him.
10. Would you like to see the Trilogy as films? If yes, who do you want to see play your characters?
Of course! Abigail Breslin would make a lovely Lili and perhaps Liam Hemsworth would make a charming Sam. But without a doubt I would pick Lucy Liu for Crystal.
11. Where do you see yourself and your career in the next ten years?
I love where I am right now. It’s taken me a lot of years to get here, and I’m savoring the ability to progress my journey toward becoming a better writer. I hope to continue with my writing, as well as encouraging and supporting other indie authors.
12. What would you be doing if you weren't writing?
Gathering inspiration so I could start writing again.
13. Can you tell KSR what you're working on next?
I’m currently working on a rural romance, but I’ve also got a science fiction story that’s been writing itself for a few years. And of course, the continuation of Absent Shadows—those characters are very much alive and their on-going story is constantly building.
14. What authors, dead or alive, would you like to collaborate with?
Oh, this is really hard. As already mentioned, I have the utmost respect for the creative skills of the late authors Ray Bradbury, Daphne du Maurier and J.R.R. Tolkien. If meeting with them meant that even the smallest portion of their talent rubbed off onto me, I’d be thrilled.
15. Thank you for participating in the interview. Can you please leave the readers with three things that may surprise them about you?
Growing up, my favourite TV shows were Dark Shadows, The Twilight Zone and Outer Limits. I loved all things paranormal, and one side of me truly regrets not doing a degree in parapsychology.
My favourite food, and the one I’d chose if I could only have one for the rest of my life—tortilla chips (or as we say here in Australia, corn chips)! And a bit of salsa on the side, please.
My favourite sound—a kitten purring. There is, quite simply, nothing better. Well, perhaps there is one better sound … the soft uttering of the words ‘thank you’. And I’d like to say them to you, Kelly, for providing this wonderful opportunity for me to connect with you and your followers.

When retired actor Buffy decides to leave London and move to rural Wales, he has no idea what he is letting himself in for.
In possession of a run-down bed and breakfast that leans more toward the shabby than the chic and is, quite literally, miles from nowhere, Buffy realizes that he needs to fill the beds—and fast. Otherwise, his vision of the pastoral countryside will go up in smoke.
Enter a motley collection of guests: Harold, whose wife has run off with a younger woman; Amy, who’s been unexpectedly dumped by her (not-so) nebbishy boyfriend and Andy, the hypochondriac postman whose girlfriend is much too much for him to handle. But under Buffy’s watchful eye, this disparate group of strangers finds that they have more in common than perhaps they first thought.
I was given an ARC of Heartbreak Hotel from the publisher for an honest review.
I am one of the few people who didn't go see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel in theaters, though I did read the book when it first came out. So I knew to expect a motley crew of characters in a beautiful setting with a lot of snarkiness.
That's exactly what I got and more.
The book reminds me a little of a naughtier Maeve Binchy tale: a wide array of characters, a lovely UK setting and an instantly recognisable voice in the narration. You know immediately upon opening any of her books that yes, you're reading Deborah Moggach.
The story centers around an old actor (I kept picturing Ian McKellen) who inherits a B&B from a dear friend who passed away. While he seems cavalier on the outside, the reader knows of his insecurities and his regrets. They know of his hopes and his woes.
The other characters are fun, confused, hurt, and hopeful, and each of them are wonderfully written. As I read, I wanted to visit the hotel, meet Voda and India (Voda is my favorite character) and have some wine with Buffy and his guests.
I didn't feel like I was reading a fictional book, I felt like I was an intruder on these people's very real lives. That's a rare skill, especially considering the vast cast that's here in the novel, but Mrs. Moggach pulls it off quite well.
I am now officially a fan. Get this on your TBR list ASAP!
5/5--a wonderful read to cozy up with a blanket, cat and glass of wine!

Love...what is it all about? Nobody really knows, but everybody has an opinion and a story. And this is the story of a boy named Alex and a girl named Diana and how a series of highly implausible events changed their relationship forever: and made for an interesting self-discovery journey.
Love is a very simple thing that often gets complicated. This story is about a couple who went from loving each other to being indifferent to the other's presence without realizing it happened.
It happens often, and it's usually the reason for divorce and infidelity, but rarely do you get a fictionalized inside look at a relationship gone...dull.
Each character is relatable depending on your mentality. Alex is tired of being simply there for Die, and Die is just too complacent for her own good.
A tale like this runs the risk of being boring, simply a psychologist's report from marriage counseling, but somehow this story keeps your interest from page one. It's not too long, not overly emotional and very real.
I liked reading it and I think others will, too.
4/5--a nice read!

Excerpt:
“Why don’t you come in?”
I was startled again by the sound of him, of his deep, alluring tone. I didn’t realize I was still hovering in the doorway. Closing most of the gap between us, I moved to one of the chairs.
I hooked my bag onto the back of it, his fingers slicing through the air as they reached for mine.
“Call me Derek.” He enclosed my hand with a pressing strength that I assumed was lightened for my benefit.
Though his stare remained on my face, I wasn’t able to keep mine on his. I needed a break, a second to get myself under control.
Control…
I had obviously lost that, though I didn’t understand why. Polished men were all I knew, all I had ever been attracted to: groomed and well-dressed, pretty and sharp, even cocky and somewhat selfish. They were certainly never burly or animalistic like Derek. So why was he having this kind of physical effect on me?
MY REVIEW:
In this story that barely took me one breathless hour to read, we meet a strong, self-assured woman named Frankie Jordan who wants a job with Derek Block, a premier real estate developer. But when she meets him, that's not all she wants!
This is just part one of a sexy tale that leaves you begging for more. And it's not just because of the sex, it's because of the plot, the strong and sexy characters and the way that Ms. Mann has with words. She can talk about real estate and make the reader...well, let's call it uncomfortable, shall we?
You know that research was done to make this book have substance, not just erotic elements. As a reader, I appreciate that. And the sex is not constant, but sexual frustration is always the subtext here. You wait with bated breath to see what will happen with Frankie ans Derek (who really does seem just so hot) and then you get to an end that makes you count the days till the next installment is released.
A big plus: a strong, elegant female lead!
5/5--sexy and fun!

::::ABOUT BLAKELY BENNETT::::
Blakely is married to a wonderful, loving, and supportive husband, who is also a writer, and who helps to keep her grounded. She is a mother, a communitarian, a lover of music (it is always on while she is writing thanks to Pandora), and a good friend. She loves to walk and hike for exercise, and finds that, since moving to Seattle, Washington, she is now one of those crazy people who walks in the rain.
Blue Persuasion is her seventh novel and the third in the Bound by Your Love Series (Stuck in Between and Bittersweet Deceit). She is also the author of the dark erotic suspense My Body Trilogy (My Body-His, My Body-His (Marcello) and My Body-Mine) and the co-author of the contemporary romance, The Demarcation of Jack, which she wrote with her husband, Dana Bennett.

:::My Review:::
In the third installment of Blakely Bennett's Bound By Your Love series, we get better acquainted with Blue, the sexy redhead with a very damaged past. And we meet Tate, one of the sexiest men I've read about. I definitely have a book crush on him!
This book might have enough sex to make a porn star blush, but it's also got a plot, an actual plot, focusing on the meaning of love and not letting your past define you and rule your life. Everyone has baggage, but that doesn't mean the baggage has to weigh you down.
Blue is one of my favorite romantic female leads, dealing with issues many girls have to and dealing well with it. She's a woman trying to help and better herself and her emotional state. Tate is a mystery, but he's one you want to figure out.
While the book, as I said, has at least one (usually more) sex scene per chapter, it's not just a smut book. It's deep, and it's an excellent read. Ms. Bennett knows how to mix sexual fantasy with harsh reality and add in a dash of psychological mystique.
Let me also add that I love the use of bondage by otherwise "normal" people. They're not deviants, killers or (very) psychologically damaged. They're not abusive like some other erotica novels I could mention. They just like things a little rough, and I love that.
This is one of the most well-written erotica novels I have had the privilege of reviewing and I certainly hope that there's more coming about these characters in the future!
5/5--love it!
