 photo FullWrapHTML_zps7uoxjitf.jpg Synopsis
Staci Jameson is independent to a fault. But after growing up in the shadow of an overprotective family, and being let down by the only person that promised to always be there for her, Staci locked away her heart and vowed only to rely on herself.
Until a tall dark and sexy-as-sin player reawakens something inside of her.
Kade Ford knows what some people will do in the name of love, and it isn't all hearts and flowers. It's the reason he isn't looking to settle down. Ever. Instead, he plays the field and never gets too close.
Until a tiny blonde firecracker barrels her way into his life and leaves him wanting more.
What starts as a one-night stand turned friends-with-benefits arrangement begins to blur into something neither of them saw coming?or wanted. And when secrets from their pasts catch up with them, the very thing that they are both running from might just be the thing that they need the most. Will Staci and Kade turn to each other or will they let their pasts define their future?
Sometimes two people don't just come together...they collide.
~ Excerpt ~
He looked at me and extended his hand. "We have to dance. Bride's orders."
I blew out an exasperated sigh, my hand hovering over his. Electricity literally snapped between us. "Well, if the bride says, then I guess I'll do as I'm told."
Kade's face cracked a smug smile, as if to say 'oh, you'll do as you’re told, all right,' and his hand curled around mine. The electricity ran up my arm, causing me to shudder.
Knock it off. I chastised myself for letting him get to me.
The other groomsmen found their bridesmaids, and we all made our way to the checkered dance floor. Livy looked so pleased with herself; I shot her a discreet scowl. She was the only person who knew about my brief history with Kade Ford, and that was only because she tricked it out of me after one too many tequilas last year.
Kade wrapped me in his strong arms and started swaying us to the music. "You look so damn fuckable in that dress."
My head snapped up to meet his hooded stare. He looked like he wanted to devour me. Shit, Jameson... PULL IT TOGETHER. I gave Kade my best fake smile and said, "Does that line actually work, Ford? Because I've heard better."
The smug smile he was wearing slowly transformed into a lazy grin only making him sexier—if that was possible. He dipped his head into the crook of my neck and whispered against my skin, "Maybe, but have you ever had better?"
The guy was a walking, talking jerk. I'd known some douches in my time, but Kade Ford was—and always would be—douche canoe number one. The kind of douche that left a mark, but a douche nonetheless.

BOOK REVIEW: "Letters To My Ex-girlfriends" by Tobias J. Samuels

I’m sure after every relationship you may have wondered “Why am I an ex?” Well, in this novel you may find out why. Meet Adam, a thirty something man who looks back on his dating life with the numerous women he has dated and the outcome of each. Like … There are just some women that a man should not become intimate with. Ericka was a blonde bombshell, 34-24-36, pretty blue eyes, and a soft almost childlike voice. Looking back, I should have known she was a basket case; she was the basket the crazies and nut jobs go into … Having Tanisha in my life made me believe that I could do anything. I wasn't just her boyfriend; I was her number one fan ... That day, my world came crashing down with those words, written in my beloved’s handwriting. After placing the letter down, a song I heard on the radio jogged to the front of my mind, “When a woman is fed up, there’s nothing you can do about it.” I was crushed and alone ...

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

In the age of self-publishing and with the ease at which anyone can be an "author", there are bound to be those great books that unfortunately get overlooked amongst the prettier, smuttier stories that take over Amazon's homepage.
Letters To My Ex-girlfriends is one of those diamonds in the rough. It is written by a man, from a man's point of view. Now, Nicholas Sparks often writes from a man's POV in a clean romance novel, but his writing has always been a bit unrealistic to me. Men don't talk or think like that, even the kindest of them. In Mr. Samuels' book, we meet Adam, who really is a typical guy, with a typical guy's feelings and ways with dealing with his emotions.
The book is written honestly, simplistically and sweetly. There are no sugary embellishments, no unnecessary emotions and no flowery speeches. It is one man's misadventures in love, period. While that sounds boring, I assure you that it isn't. It's intriguing, and kept me reading all night, even though this is not the type of book I would actually buy for myself.
I loved reading this. It was short, sweet and honest. There might be very few reviews out there online for it, and very little press, but don't let that deter you. This is truly a gem with very few faults.

4.5/5--fun and sweet!

BOOK REVIEW: "Unrelenting Nightmare" by Stan Yocum

SPECIAL NOTE: This novel was previously released as A Lesson in Reality, which I withdrew from publication when I decided to re-edit the novel.
Stuart Garrison, a brilliant virtual reality software developer, has his company poised on the threshold of industry dominance with the release of his newest virtual reality system—Next World. Preston McBraid, the CEO of a competitor company, realizes that if he does not own Next World his company’s premier position atop the computer industry will be ruined. Drastic measures are taken and McBraid hires a notorious assassin to kill Stuart. The FBI learns of the assassination plot and intervenes to protect Stuart. Stuart clings desperately to the protection provided him in hopes that he can make it though the onslaught of assassination attempts. If he does, his next virtual reality product—Mind Games—will blow the world away with its ingenuity and will catapult Stuart to the top of the computer industry making him a billionaire many times over.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Some people might have noticed that I love violent novels. Usually that violence is in horror, but in Unrelenting Nightmare, the violence reminds me of reading the Deathstroke comic series by Kyle Higgins. The main character is actually the assassin, Clark Cameron, and its his story we get truly immersed in. Stuart, to me, was a secondary character, just as evil as Cameron but for different reasons.
This is a story with no true hero, and everyone is pretty rotten somehow. You get to see war action, you get deep inside the mind of a hired gun and you see how greed could lead to death. Clark is a better character than Stuart, and I am surprised it ended how it did. I was kind of hoping for something different.
The story did head hop a little with quick and sometimes unnoted POV changes. For 99% of readers, that would have been a problem. For me, however, I like POV changes. It makes me feel as though I am inside the character's heads, knowing their secrets and their worries.
It was a fun read, but definitely not for everyone. Would I read more from this author? Definitely.

4/5--Dark and different.

BOOK REVIEW: "The Dreams Of Kings" by David Saunders

In the year 1464, the Kingdom is engulfed by civil war as the renowned houses of Lancaster and York fight to the death for the crown of England.
Richard, Duke of Gloucester, the future ‘Richard III’, arrives, aged twelve, for the safety of Middleham Castle to begin his training for knighthood. His new companions discover he can change from kindness to cold rage within the wink of an eye. Men, it was said, watched him with wary eyes, for they knew when the young pup found his teeth, he would make a dangerous enemy.
Far in the north, Margaret of Anjou, warrior Queen to Henry VI, prepares to fight against the advancing armies of Edward IV. Why does she abandon her husband, and flee to France vowing never to return? Who blackmails her, seven years later, to join forces with her most hated enemy, to return and fight once again for the crown of England?
King Edward IV, tall, handsome, and clever, is a brilliant warrior, whose Achilles' heel is women ‒ he loves them all. What dark forces drive him into a secret marriage that rips his kingdom apart? He is forced to fight Louis XI of France, and the mighty Earl of Warwick, not only for his crown but also his life.
From the courts of Edward IV, Louis XI, and Margaret of Anjou, comes intrigue, betrayal, witchcraft, and love. The Dreams of Kings weaves plots and characters together to make a roller-coaster read of the period they call the ‘WAR of the ROSES’.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I have always loved this era of England and France. I recently read a book about Richard III, and have always known a little about the War of Roses (funny, my school didn't teach me much about it). Of course, everyone is getting into the olden days because of shows like Poldark, Outlander and the CW show Reign, and I think this book is perfect for fans of those types of shows.
As with any fact-to-fiction volume, things have been changed, but they are not glaring errors, rather they are modifications and embellishments to make this story work as fiction.
Some scenes were surprisingly violent, and I loved it. A good bloodbath is always a plus for me when I'm reading. Richard, as a child, is given the same eerie and dark description as some of the other children in horror fiction have. He is unsettling to read about, and for me, he was my favorite thing here. Murderous children are like bloodbaths: great enhancers to any stories.
This book is not for the faint of heart, as it contains violence and witchcraft, but it is a wonderful book, fun to read and definitely not what I expected when I was asked to review this.
I will definitely be rereading this!

4/5--dark and unique
