Exclusive excerpt!

Uncle Tony’s house looked even more massive to my drunk, unfocused eyes. Two of me standing on top of each other could fit under the massive door frame. But the house was like Tony: broad, strong, and stunning to look at.

“So tell me something,” he asks as he helps me from the car. I stumble as I try to stand. That last vodka he gave me really hit me hard. “Do you usually go commando at these parties?”

My face must be a tomato by now. “Um, no. My stupid ex … well, it’s a long story.”

He tightens his hold on me to keep me upright as he opens the front door. “Still trying to get in your pants after you told him to fuck off?” he guesses.

I nod, and regret it as the movement makes the foyer spin.

“Well, I can’t blame him,” Uncle Tony admits. “You’re gorgeous. I’d never let you go if I got my hands on you.”

Wait, what? Did he just say that, or is the liquor messing with my hearing?

“Kick those heels off,” he instructs as he also removes his shoes.

I do as he asks, only to once again stumble backwards, but luckily he catches me. Without my heels, I’m 5’3” to his 6’1”, and the difference is noticeable to say the least. My head only comes up to his sternum, and my hand can’t close around his wrist as I grab on to remain steady.

“Silly girl,” he says, his voice a low rumble in his chest. I can feel it vibrate and I feel like I should cross my legs as it makes my core ache. “Come on. Up you get.”

In one quick movement, he sweeps me into his arms, bridal-style. My miniskirt rises up and I can literally feel a breeze on my unmentionables. He turns and walks up the stairs as easily as if he were carrying a couple of pillows and not a fully grown human woman.

He leads me to one of the guest rooms, though this one is extremely sparsely furnished compared with the rest of his house. The bed wouldn’t be out of place in a prison, and there’s a small TV in front of it. He deposits me on the bed abruptly, unlike the delicate way he’d carried me.

My unbalanced, drunk self lands on my ass, but my legs are splayed, revealing my wet slit to the man I’ve called “uncle” since I was five years old.

He scoffs. “Aren’t you a needy one? First you somehow let your ex take your panties, after that you spread your legs on the sidewalk, then you let me grope you, and now you’re silently begging for it.”

“What? No, all that … it was an accident,” I say, trying to get my brain to think clearly, but I can’t.

“Sure it was,” he mocks, stepping between my legs. He reaches out and pulls at my sparkly pink tank top until it tears away, leaving my breasts bare. My nipples immediately harden in the air.

I cover up, but that makes me move too much on the bed so I move one arm to prop me up. I need to sit up, I need to get out. Whatever’s gotten into him, somehow I feel like I made it worse.

This far down, I get a good eyeful of the growing bulge in his jeans. It doesn’t look long, but it looks thick.

That could ruin me…

I shake my head to dispel that thought. It’s wrong. It’s knocking on the house next door to incest. But alcohol and common sense don’t really go together, and heat rises in my cheeks as I keep staring, transfixed.

Uncle Tony chucks me under the chin so I have to look up into his face. “Tesoro, I know you want this. I know you need this. Why are you fighting? Don’t you think Uncle Tony knows what’s best for you?”

I nod, his words and deep voice wrapping themselves around me like a blanket.

“Unzip my jeans. Show me what those pretty pink lips can do, sweet girl,” he commands. He lets my chin go and moves back a step. Just enough room for me to run, to leave, before this gets even more out of hand.

His dark eyes glance from me to the door then back to me, a triumphant smirk on his lips when he sees I’m not going anywhere.

The Fair Folk are the stuff of myth. Stories of monsters and old magicks. But all myths carry a grain of truth. That truth is that remnants of this ancient power live on in the blood of their descendants.

When Tannin’s grandfather dies, he leaves her with a mountain of trouble. Between cryptic journals that warn of unknown foes lying in wait and a crippling debt owed to a cruel and formidable local Laird, Tannin is thrown into a cut-throat world where she is perilously out of her depth.

But her problems have only just begun. Secrets lurk in Tannin’s bloodstream – secrets not even she is aware of. And they want out.

A scheming princess with the offer of an alliance. A secret society with murderous intentions. A dark past that refuses to stay buried. Tannin’s life will never be the same.

More than a century later, the Galveston Hurricane of 1900 is still America's deadliest disaster. Lauren Tarshis's story of one child surviving the horrible event churns with page-turning action and bold hope.

The city of Galveston, Texas, was booming. Perched on an island off the southern coast of Texas, Galveston had been founded in the 1830s. By 1900, it was Texas's richest and most important city. Boats loaded up with American cotton and wheat steamed from Galveston to countries around the world. Arriving ships were crowded with immigrants. The streets, paved with crushed oyster shells, sparkled like they'd been sprinkled with diamonds.

True, this glittering city was prone to flooding. But just a few years before, a weather forecaster had said the idea of a hurricane striking Galveston was absurd.

So when a storm started brewing on September 8, 1900, no one believed it would be any worse than previous storms. They gathered on the beach to cheer on the wild waves. But what started as entertainment soon turned into a nightmare as those wild waves crashed into the city. By morning, hundreds of homes were destroyed. Eight thousand people were dead. The city had all but disappeared,

In this thrilling installment of Lauren Tarshis's New York Times bestselling I Survived series, one child finds safety only to head back into the treacherous waters to make sure his neighbors are safe.
