BLOG TOUR: "Our Moon" by Jennifer L. Allen

Title: Our Moon
Author: Jennifer L. Allen
Genre: Contemporary Romance

From June 30th through July 3rd, this ebook will be only 99 cents!

Ally Monroe can’t remember her name, let alone the eighteen years of her life before a car accident put her in a year-long coma. She wakes up to the reality that her parents are dead and she has amnesia.

Released from her long-term care facility to live with her twin brother, Alex, and older brother, Trevor, Ally tries to piece together what she can while attempting to live her life again. Enter Chase Baker, guitarist for her brothers’ rock band, JACT. There is something about him that Ally just can’t resist, but the mysteries of her past are looming in the back of her mind, threatening to destroy anything she tries to build with him.

Do Ally and Chase have a chance? Or is there a secret in Ally’s past that may get in the way?

“These smell delicious,” he says as he sets the cookies down on the folding tray table I pulled out from the rack beside the entertainment center.

“Thanks, I came up with the recipe myself,” I tell him. “Well, I picked apart a few different recipes to form this one recipe.”

“So this is a Frankenstein cookie?” he asks as he lifts one to his mouth. That mouth…Full lips concealing perfectly white teeth. Sigh.

“Ha ha. If you’re too afraid to try my concoction, you don’t have to,” I tease. Am I flirting with him? Stop it, Ally!

Chase grins, letting me know he was only teasing, and shoves the entire cookie in his mouth.

“Oh my gosh, that’s so gross,” I laugh.

He smiles as he chews. Then he closes his eyes and groans. And my heart. Just. Stops.

“This is so good, Ally,” he moans through his chewing.

My mind is completely in the gutter now as I stare at him, completely unabashed. I’m sure if his eyes were open, instead of closed in cookie ecstasy, he would see the pure hunger I have for him, not the cookies, in my eyes as I sit here and imagine the various other situations where I would love to hear him say those words.

I try to shake it off but not before he opens his eyes and catches me staring at him. When his eyes widen, I know he sees what I was hoping he wouldn’t. I catch a similar look in his eyes before I turn my head away and shove a cookie in my own mouth.

Not my best move, that’s for sure, especially when I start choking on a crumb. I quickly swallow down the cookie in my mouth with a chug of milk and proceed to try and cough out the crumb.

Chase pats my back. “You okay?” he asks, concern etching his voice.

I nod as I take another sip of milk. “Wrong pipe,” I rasp out.

Out of the corner of my eye, I swear I see a small grin on his face. I’m so embarrassed. If I thought it was embarrassing having Chase witness my anxiety attack, this is so much worse. First, he catches me looking like I want to eat him. Then, he watches me stuff a whole cookie into my mouth and proceed to choke on it. This is just great. Why can’t I just be normal?

I live in South Carolina with my husband and our fur-kids. By day I’m an office manager, and by night I am a student, starting my final semester towards my BA in Psychology. I’ll be starting grad school in the fall. When I’m not at work or taking classes, I am either reading or writing. Books have always been a passion! I also enjoy spending time with my family, traveling to new places, and music.

My Reading and Writing History
I started reading when I was young, I loved Golden Books, especially the mini-ones you’d get in a kid’s meal! As a preteen I read lots of R.L. Stine, and even some Stephen King! I hated the assigned readings in school because I didn’t like being told what to read, so I never read those.  As a young adult, I found interest in James Patterson – I love his crime dramas! I took a break from reading for fun for a bit when I decided to get my college degree and had to read loads of text books. But it was all over once I read Hopeless by Colleen Hoover, as recommended by my sister. New Adult/Contemporary Romance is my genre of choice, to read and to write. I probably average reading a book or more a day. It’s a great addiction.

I’ve always enjoyed writing to an extent. I always liked to journal and blog. Since I’ve been reading new adult romance novels, I have been having ideas for what might be a great story line for a book. I fought with myself for a long time before finally starting my first book. I have no idea where it’s going to lead me, but you’ll never know unless you try.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW: Tobias J. Samuels

Facebook: Tobias Samuels   and twitter@tobiassamuels1  links also amazon  http://amzn.to/1GoUzj2 .

1. When/why did you decide to become a writer?
I decided to be a writer after many years of writing in a journal. I was inspired by Stephen Spielberg who mentioned that writing is just thoughts on paper.

2. What authors inspired you when you were younger? What books do you enjoy reading today?
I wasn't a big reader when I was younger, but if I had to pick I would say Edgar Allen Poe. In high school I enjoyed his style of writing. The books I enjoy reading are success self-help books. I love the history of business how someone has an idea and changes the world with it.

3. What was the inspiration behind your novel Letters to My Ex-Girlfriends?
There are two inspirational places. One was when I was online shopping for book covers and I saw the hearts on this pre-made book cover with the words, "love letters" right then and there something hit me. I bought the book cover and wrote a story based on it. Basically I use the book cover image as inspiration. I also was inspired by the movie, "Something Gotta Give" with Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton and Keanu Reeves. In one scene Diane Keaton is heartbroken and she writes a bestselling novel. She used her failed relationship to fuel a great novel. That scene was stuck in my mind although I've seen that movie 7 years prior to writing this book. Somehow that scene of her crying and putting it all on paper helped me write. I also went through a heartbreak and used it for fuel.

4. Will we ever see Adam or even any of the girlfriends again in the future?

I have to say no or maybe. I say maybe because if one character speaks to me I might just write it. Maybe Ericka or the back story of Sky.

5. Why did you decide to write a book about reflection, past love?
It wasn't planned, it was the cover image that inspired the work. Plus it just felt right.

6. Were any of the characters personalities or emotions taken from real life?
Yes and no. Jasmine was taken from an experience of someone I loved, but that ex is quite alive and healthy. I used the illness in the book as a metaphor to let her go so that I could move on to love again. Tanisha were a combination of two people I know. The part where Tanisha writes Adam was a sad time I drew upon when I let my ex down. I could feel the pain of sadness in her voice and how it made me felt. Remembering that moment worked well in the book, but not something I’d like to live again.

7. What other genres would you like to try your hand at?
I would love to write a fantasy novel with epic worlds and deep story line.

8. What would you do if you were Adam?
If I were Adam I probably would do the same things he did. Maybe stay away from the likes of Ericka's.

9. What kind of emotions did you have to tap into or relationship research did you have to do in order to make this book so realistic and relatable?
To make this book relatable I read a few blogs on heartbreak, Also Sky came from a girl picture I saw on a singles dating site, she had a four leaf clover on her face which inspired the plot on St. Patrick parade. I had to dig deep from my emotions from some of my ex-girlfriends in real life, when I let one of them down and how I made them felt. I had to go back to happy moments when I surprised a few friends. I tapped into when I was heartbroken to make it real, especially Adam's first heartbreak. Anger was also an emotion I used from past failures, and missed attempts. I really had to go back to those places, and it was actually therapeutic.

10. Would you like to see Letters to My Ex-Girlfriends as a film? If yes, who do you want to see play your characters?
Yes I would, I always pictured Ryan Reynolds or Ryan Gosling as Adam. Even Justin Timberlake. Jennifer Lawrence as Anonymous. Meaghan Rath as Veronica, Charlize Theron or Cameron Diaz as Ericka. Keke Palmer as Tanisha, Rosario Dawson as Jasmine, and Sky could be a new up and coming actress.

11. Where do you see yourself and your career in the next ten years?
In the next ten years I see myself running an online publishing company. I also see myself running various online businesses including coaching and other niche websites.

12. What would you be doing if you weren't writing?
Playing video games, just kidding. I would be personal training.
13. Can you tell KSR what you're working on next?
I am currently working on a tale of short stories about wealth with a twist. It's a series similar to the twilight zone and tales from the dark side. And two short stories on love. One takes place in a world where people who fall in love has to give their hearts away literally, if the love is not return that person goes on living without a heart. This is a coming of age book. The other is about a girl who is cursed, but doesn't know it. Her father knows she will be the end of him if she gets her hearts broken. So he over protects her, but she ends up falling in love with a young man. But soon after her sister starts to flirt with this young man and... Well you have to read it to find out how that turns out.
14. What authors, dead or alive, would you like to collaborate with?
Edgar Allan Poe, C.S. Lewis, Alfred Hitchcock, Rod Serling and John C. Maxwell.
15. Thank you for participating in the interview. Can you please leave the readers with three things that may surprise them about you?
I am a winning natural body building competitor, I was homeless two times in my lifetime and I hated reading until I fell in love with it reading due to the Bible in my early twenties.

BOOK REVIEW: "November Keys" by Brian and Michael Turner

November Keys Inhabitant
"If we had known, we would not have sold the club. I admit we succumbed to greed but we did not realise we were putting our heritage at such risk. They did take the team to great heights but the consequences were disastrous."
American Gangster
"They asked for what they got. Did they seriously think that we were interested in some run down hick football club?"
November Keys Inhabitant
"Our benevolent buyers turned out to be ruthless. We had never experienced a murder in our village before. Not unless you include Cheryl's cooking."
American Gangster
"What did you expect? They had something I wanted. Something life changing. Do you think I was going to get it by playing peek a boo?"
November Keys Inhabitant
"Although we celebrated Harvesting Leaf Day and talked about the creatures in the tree, we did not actually expect to see them."
November Keys, a quaint village that was ready to sell its soul to the Devil for hastily promised riches. However, when the Devil buys he expects to collect. A very funny tale of greed, gangsters and things that go bump in the night.

I received a copy of this book from the author(s) in exchange for an honest review.

Greed. What a motivator it is! Dangle riches in front of humans and they will do anything to get them...and I do mean anything.
That's what November Keys is about, gangsters making promises they can't keep, knowing the inhabitants of the town desire wealth. It is a story about betrayal, lies and fighting back against injustice.
I love that this book was written by a father and son team. Usually, reading books by two authors can be difficult, because you can see a clear difference between the two individual's styles. (Exception being The Hungry by Harry Shannon and Steven W. Booth; example being Black House and The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub.) This team does an excellent job in creating a wonderful story that is exciting, engaging and even a little humorous. You don't know you're reading a book written by two parties: the story flows easily.
I usually like gangster tales, but some writers make them into caricatures of old stories. Thankfully, that does not happen here. It's written simply, realistically and is good for a few hours of entertainment. Would I recommend this book? Yes, and I also eagerly await the next book from these talented gentlemen!

4/5--a solid, fun book

EXCERPT

“The choice is yours, boy, but understand—not deciding is making a decision. Do it before I make the decision for you. Only difference is, I won’t kill one, I’ll kill them both. Father or sister. You have all the power.”
Roth kept his tone calm and gentle. The evil coiled tightly within warmed his soul. He fancied the boy killing his father, silently rooting for the infant to survive. He could have lots of fun with her over the coming years.
The boy’s father would die either way. He’d bound and beaten him just for fun.
“Daddy? What do I do?” Tears streamed down Dylan’s face, sobs racked his entire nine-year-old battered frame. His gaze slid from his father to his baby sister, now held by Roth. When he looked back at his dad’s bruised and bloodied face, he cried harder. His dad’s eyes were swollen almost shut.
The gun shook uncontrollably in the boy’s small hand. “Daddy?”
Boredom shadowed his mind as the excitement of the climax dimmed with the child’s indecisiveness. His gaze wandered out the window above the kitchen sink.
In the back yard, a massive, wooden play structure stood, complete with swings, tunnels, overhead ladder, and a slide. How extravagant for just two children, one still an infant. His sister always belabored the little things. Shame she’s not present to witness this. He would’ve found this even more amusing.
The blond haired infant cradled roughly in his left arm actually cooed at him. Disgusting. If he kept this thing, he'd have to hire a nanny. Still, the thought of it growing up with half the powers his sister enjoyed years ago made the brat worth the trouble...If she survived today. He sighed.

* * * *

“Dylan, son, it's okay. You’re going to be all right. Look at me. Remember how we played catch this morning? When you think of me, you’ll remember how we played ball today. Okay, son?”
What else could he say in this horrific situation? His own psychotic brother-in-law was forcing Dylan to commit the most heinous act imaginable, choose between patricide and sororicide. Roth had always been the canary in the crazy mind but even Devon hadn’t seen this coming.
“Awww, isn’t this touching?” Roth muttered, no doubt weary of his twisted game. “What a little wimp. I’m growing tired of your indecision, boy. I think I’ll just slice this little bitch’s throat. After all, she’d probably just grow up to be a carbon copy of her mother, stubborn and willful. Wouldn’t want more of that in the world, would we?”
“Noooo, please. Please don’t hurt her! She’s just a baby.” Facing where he knew his son to be by the sound of his sobbing stifled his thoughts. “Son, I know this is the hardest thing you’ll ever do, but you must. Please. It’s all right. I love you more than anything.”
Dylan retched, fumbling and almost dropping the Glock 9mm pistol. It probably felt like the heaviest thing he’d ever held, certainly his first time holding a gun.
His small frame trembled, tears streamed from his eyes, hair matted to his face. Red, swollen tissue marred the right side of his face, the result of Roth’s cold temper. The kitchen table supported his slight weight as he leaned one forearm on its edge.
“Roth, please don’t do this. He’s just a boy. Be the sniveling coward you’ve always been. Do it yourself.” Articulation was slurred through split and bloody lips. His tongue slipped between the gap of two missing teeth.
Though partially open, his right eye refused to focus properly. Warm, wet liquid traced a path down his face. Gravity would always trump decency. Blood splattered his clothes. Patches of gray clouded the edges of his vision. Unconsciousness lumbered near. The drumming in his head kept pace with his rapid-fire pulse. No child should ever see his father this way, unable to protect his family. Even if his son survived Roth, which he began to doubt, he'd be scarred for life.
“Oh, Devon, Devon, Devon. You just don’t get it, do you? I’m not a coward,” Roth admonished. “I have no qualms about ending any of your lives. Watch, let me demonstrate.” His patronizing voice oozed in the air like oil spreading over water to corrupt with its filth. Roth pulled the six-inch blade from its sheath at his waist and held it to the baby’s throat, who lay cuddled in the crook of his left arm.
“No, don’t. You bastard!” Devon strained at the rope binding his hands behind his back. “Dylan, listen. Take the family crest ring off my finger. Go ahead, son, take it. It’s yours. It’s our coat of arms.” Twisting sideways forced the bonds to cut his wrists as he removed the ring from fingers slick with blood.
When his son took it, he realized these would be his last words to his boy. “Put it in your pocket, you can get a chain for it until you’re grown. That ring is a symbol of your strength, son, a symbol of your commitment to do whatever’s necessary to protect your family. Remember this, Dylan.” Dear God, he'll have nightmares the rest of his life...if he survives.

About the Author

Of the many lessons life seems intent on throwing her way; the most important one Shyla’s learned is to take the time to enjoy family and friends. The flux and flow of changes aren’t something to fight, but adapt to with the best of your ability. One day’s heartbreak is often followed by another day’s triumph. The only barricades remaining are the ones we refuse to navigate. She hopes you’ve enjoyed this story. Shyla’s website, ShylaWolff.com, will be updated as Dylan’s journey continues.

“You okay over there?” It looked like he had ants in his pants.

“I’m hard as a fucking rock thinking about fucking you.” He growled low in his throat. The sound was so sexy, and mixed with his words, a new rush of wetness settled between my legs.

“I want that,” I responded a bit breathlessly.

“Yeah?”

I nodded and swallowed hard when his hand resumed petting me through my pants, but this time higher. Each pass of his finger against my swollen lips made me want to moan. I craved skin on skin contact with this man something fierce.

“Jax?” I breathed out when he started doing circular motions that had me widening my legs.

“Mmmmm,” he mumbled against the skin of my neck as his lips tormented me there.

“Can I touch you?” My hand tentatively reached out and pressed against the bulge straining behind his zipper. His hips rose up, pressing him more firmly into my hand.

Removing his hand from between my legs, resulting in a small protest slipping from my lips, he deftly undid his button and zipper. He pulled himself from the confines of his damp jeans and placed my hand on his rather large erection. He was hot, silky, and smooth. Sheer perfection in my hand.

He growled in the back of his throat as I softly explored him. His head fell back on the headrest and his hands tightened into tight fists on his thighs. I chanced a quick glance over at him. A look of pain flitted across his features, but when he shouted, “Holy fuck,” as I swiped my hand over the head, I knew it was an exquisite pain he was feeling.

Maybe the only person he can trust is himself? When protecting the heart she loves forces Heart to omit certain truths about herself and those she loves, can Kenneth see past her betrayal long enough for her to keep him alive? Blog Tour Banner Excerpt: The subtle touch of fingers so familiar to his skin he could confuse it for his own grazed the slick skin of his shoulder until it slid down his back as smoothly as the droplets of water raining down on him. “You okay?” she asked softly into his ear. “I was afraid today was too much for you. You’ve only been back home a handful of days.” He nodded his head, eyes still closed to the streaming water saturating the thick strands of his hair. He felt her hand crawl back up the length of his back, the movement making the muscles that rested just beneath her digits twitch in anticipation. Heart was right, he had returned from the hospital several days before, but in that time the two of them had barely spent any alone time together. They’d both been physically present, and usually that was all it took to stoke the embers that always seemed to be on a low simmer just waiting for an excuse to fan the flames to full blaze. But since his release there had been something there, something that was keeping them from being them. Kenneth turned his head slightly toward the sound of her voice. He opened his eyes just enough to see the water-sprinkled vision of her standing to the side of him. He pulled her into his embrace and pinned her back against the wall between his outstretched arms. There was nothing like the sight of his wife naked and waiting for him. No matter how difficult things were between them they’d always had this. It baffled him that he’d allowed whatever this was between them to fester to the point where he hadn’t touched his wife in days. The knowledge that she’d kept something so important from him fucked with his head in a way he hadn’t anticipated. Truth was he really hadn’t even given serious thought as to why her omission of the facts about Bryan and Justice impacted him so much. But to deny himself this, this connection, this reassurance that his world was grounded, that they were whole, what the fuck was he thinking? He positioned her directly under the spray of water and watched the fullness of her hair flatten against her scalp and back. She would bitch at him later about having to go to the hairdresser, but the thought of that conversation alone was pulling up the corners of his mouth into a wicked smile. He allowed his fingers to rest at the base of her head, fingers caressing her nape in just the right way to make her fall into his touch. His heart tightened slightly. They’d been stressed and their connection strained, but underneath all the bullshit, it was still there and he was grateful for it. But right now, I just need to feel my wife.” Head shot Author Bio Amazon: http://smarturl.it/LaQuetteonAmazon Facebook: Http://www.Facebook.com/LaQuetteTheAuthor Twitter: @LaQuetteLikes Website: http://www.LaQuetteLikes.com 2015 Georgia Romance Writers Maggie Award Finalist in Erotic Romance, LaQuette, a native of Brooklyn, New York, spends her time catering to her three distinct personalities: Wife, Mother, and Educator.
