BOOK REVIEW: "Lot's Mountain" by N.R. Allen

Magic isn't gone, only hidden.
For countless centuries monsters, men, and things in between have fought hidden battles over the fate of magic … in a small rural town in Virginia. Now their skirmishes threaten to explode into open war, with the entire world held in the balance.
Dylan Caid, a troubled misfit whose secret just might hold the key to victory, finds himself thrust into the center of this ancient conflict. With both sides urging him to join with them and threatening death or worse should he not, Dylan must seek out an ancient force that even monsters fear.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a very interesting play on paranormal mystery for the upper YA crowd and above. Mixing those two elements with dashes of science fiction and a good dose of heart, N.R. Allen made a novel I really was surprised to find I enjoyed.
I admit, there is a lot going on in the story, and you have to concentrate a lot to keep up with all of the events, but that just proves what a great mind the author has.
I really liked Dylan, the main character. He had guts, brains and was able to overcome his troubled life to make himself a great antihero of the story. He's not the "good guy". He's put in the good guy position whether he likes it or not, and he makes the best of it. I want to see more characters like him in YA fiction.
Except for the occasionally over-involved plot, this was a great book and I recommend it!

4.5/5--fun and intriguing!
